Gundam statue erected in Japan near Sunrise studios

Source: Mainichi Daily news

Huge 'Gundam' robot set up outside station near anime's production studio

A 3-meter-high bronze statue of a robot from the popular anime "Mobile Suit Gundam," has been erected outside a station near the production studio that created the anime.

The bronze statue was unveiled Sunday outside Kami-Igusa Station on the Seibu Shinjuku Line in Tokyo's Suginami-ku, near anime production studio Sunrise. The ward set up the bronze statue as a way to revive the local area, after receiving a petition from about 2,400 residents.

"We want the area to develop through this, just like a youth riding on Gundam," Suginami-ku Mayor Hiroshi Yamada said at the unveiling ceremony.

The statue is cast with one of its hands extended to the sky. On Sunday the station changed the musical sound played when trains leave the station to the anime's theme song, "Tobe Gundam."

It makes me think that they should get some gunpla maniac to paint it, hehe. ^_^ I also like the idea of trains leaving to a little melody of "Tobe! Gundam"...

Hokuto No Ken flash game

Here's a flash game based on the 2D fighting game of Hokuto No Ken:

http://flashkof.fr/hokuto/game.html

It's pretty ambitious, it uses sprites from the arcade game, the Animetal version of "Ai Wo Torimodose!", and you can set your own key controls and options like difficulty and the basics for any fighting game.

I can't get it to do anything other than show Kenshiro and Mr Heart standing opposite each other - not fighting. I press lots of buttons... nothing.

Other people seem to be able to play it just fine, though. So I'm posting the link.

Boston Dynamics - BigDog robot

Someone sent me a link to a video clip of this "BigDog" robot. It's a pretty amazing robot, that walks on rough terrain, can carry a load, won't fall over if it is kicked or slips, and is going to give me nightmares. :(

Take a look:

The future is here! It's scary!

Maria-sama ga Miteru - US release!

Woo! Maria-sama ga Miteru has been licensed by Nozomi Entertainment (Rightstuf International).

Official Site: http://maria-sama.rightstuf.com/

It'll be released in box set seasons (1,2,3), subtitled only, and the first season comes out on July 29th. The other two don't have dates listed.

I placed my preorder for Season 1 already, it was only $37.49, which means that two seasons cost about the same as one volume (two episodes) on Region 2 DVDs. An excellent deal.

Dramatic Dungeon: Sakura Taisen DS

It's an upcoming game for Nintendo DS, featuring characters from all the previous Sakura Taisen games. Looks somewhere between a Sakura Taisen game and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (a roguelike with party-forming).

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - doujin game translation (2)

Although it was released on the 24th of February, I only just noticed that the "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni" doujin translation project has made another release, and the translation now goes up to day 9. You can get it by following this link. ^_^

I'm downloading the new patch now! ^__^

I've started reading it already (using the patch that goes up to day 5), but haven't read very far yet. I'm quite enjoying it, and I think the characters' personalities shine through more strongly than I remember them doing in the anime version. Some of their talents and their quirks are introduced earlier in the story.

The artwork.... I would describe as.... foamy. Everyone looks kind of like they're made out of foam. See:

Mion and Rena looking foamy

Tomitake looking foamy

EDIT: the new patch works fine, but my save files started at different points of the story; I think they got messed up...

Space Hulk freeware remake released

If you visit http://www.teardown.se/ you can now download a remake of the videogame version of the tabletop RPG Space Hulk. It's free, the makers got full permission from Games Workshop and EA. Nice of them, isn't it?
